Amazing ! An Aussie riesling that actually tastes like an Aussie riesling and not a sweet, full bodied Mosel mimic which is what so many Aussie rieslings have become over the last few years. Even more amazing is that this comes from an Aussie region famous for OTT Shiraz and very full bodied semillon. This is dry and light with lime and petrol. I would give it a star but I think it will be too light for most of you. Elegant, classic but simple. |

Barossa Riesling ! Good lord, I read that in the Clare Valley, the Riesling harvest for 2009 produced a 10 out of 10. I enjoy classic and simple, I dislike complicated and pretentious, which usually means, Yuk. Enjoy Mr G. |

The 3rd store that I visited had this so I grabbed one. Wanted the Stonebridge listed in QO page, but the store that had it also had a queue the length of the aisle. Yep this is simplish. The first bite promised fine things, then it falls apart a bit a frij temperature. Certainly wouldn't put it in the prison colony. Let's see what a little warmth will do. |

More complex now, but still a little watery texture. Better than those cloying ones I suppose. I feel a decent blend coming on. |

Ba, don't forget that Mr G likes them very transparent. He likes to look thru to the finish - where-ever that is ? The transparency is usually more lead crystal, as in Saint Clair blocks or unoaked Chablis 1er, so I don't really understand this corrugated polycarbonate jobby. The sticky cloying ones are crap as well Unless it's a spoof. Barrossa terraine and climat - hardly Riesling country or clone, is it ? They probably picked 2 months early, who knows ? |

Enter the 1000 km Riesling blend. Cono Sur / Barossa. Not magical, but a good try. Better than either on their own in my opinion. |

I said it was light and simple. Which Ba has confirmed. It had very subtle lime and petrol which is correct for Oz. I quite liked it when served at room temp. Bit tart when chilled but then as you know, I drink my whites warmer than most so how it tasted chilled didn't really matter. I shall stick to sb |

The transparency is usually more lead crystal, as in Saint Clair blocks or unoaked Chablis 1er, This is true but I do like deep and concentrated too like JE 07 and VM Wairau Reserve 09 so long as ALL the richness comes from the flavour and not oak/extra sweetness etc |

This is now £3 a bottle in my local Co-Op, and the St Hallett Poachers Blend is £4. I will be paying a visit on the way home this evening, didnt have time to grab them this morning. |

I agree with most of what has already been written about this, obviously riesling on the nose, clean and focused at first, a touch thin in the finish, nice tho. Its either good fruit that's spread too thinly or an average batch that has been well manipulated by the winemaker, hard to tell. |
