Glass 1 too cold, pleasant, good nose, no finish. G2 warmer, same nose deeper flavours, longer finish. Slightly watered-down in the middle, but this is turning into a classic; bodes well for G3+ and The Reach as well. Will keep 2nd bottle for a while.

How's it compare with the 09?

For me the '08 was the best of the 3 that I've had. This is second, but may well flesh-out given a while (I have another in the dark). I was not keen on the '09

maybe Ba's had one too many glasses of Vav....

2010 is meant to be a cracking year for Malborough so with any luck the 2010 Vav will be as good if not better than 09 (which is still darned decent at the moment)

...But see also...

Have (eventually) an '09 but a disappointment. I thought the '08 brilliant and was expecting even more from this. Too sweet, no character, will leave the 2nd. one for a while.

This post was in August and early evening. Yours was November, so it may have been better, 'specially as it was 2300 and probably a second bottle after something else

I was aware of your previous comment, Ba, but thought that your most recent experience would have been the one that stuck. Especially as it was only last week.

Fair comment.

I did like it recently, I remember. The second '10 will wait a few months as well which may change my opinion again.

Sorry, couldn't wait, needed MSB. It was either a dodgy bottle or a dodgy me, This is great - typical and fine even at 13 c.
Shall order some more.

Sweet, medium bodied but no rough edges.....vague underlying tomato leaf but this isn't obviously Awatere Valley.

Boring but not unpleasant wine.

The SE is much nicer for £2 less. ( serve very lightly chilled )

Ba....get ya JE 2010 tasting note up

Now that Vav '09 is just not easily available - Where Sir ? Are you going to direct me, for a few.

** MSB sub £8
MSB post £11

One other proviso, I have good stocks, ** so it must be capable of going on for 6 months, and cos my Misses and daughters can pick-up Ned at most times - It is for me and my mates

Thinking allowed - My Sancere stock is real low

The days of really good MSB at £8 or under that will last into the next vintage have gone. At between £8 and £10 Sacred Hill, Saint Clair and JE are fallen giants that once got and deserved ratings of 93. I am drinking a glass of the 09 JE. It's lost it's nasty phenols but there's no flavour. It's a dead wine. At above £10, well, for me there's the Pioneers and for you, MrD, I would've thought the Craggy's and I am convinced that Blind River at Oddbins will be right up your street, unlike Oddbins, which will probably be a 40 mile round trip to a car park three miles from the shop.

How long can Oddbins last ?

Have you seen today that HMV ( HMV stores and Waterstones books are all but bust ). I guess they will carry on with fewer stores, shareholders wiped out and no debt once a debt/equity swap is finalised but these specialist shops are sadly doomed.

Sancerre.......could I not persuade you/anyone to try the Boufants at MW. And there's always the Ladoucette pair of Ladoucette PF and Comte Lafond Sancerre for deper pockets.

I hear the Lafond Sancerre 2006 on sale at Maj is stunning. Check out the Celler Tracker reviews.

Mind you, JE 2010 could have returned to former glories. Bob hasn't put up a rating and Ba is teasing us.

He's such a beast

Best
G

Thanks for responding so quickly G. Yeah, the Craggy's, but know won, but no one is doing any deals with these - ugh. I must eek out current stock, also G. I can advise that Te Muna is going soft ! TBF, I've not tried the latest vintage. Hmmn, I may 'ave said that before. Only Old Renwick has the class to be near the top.

Good Q. I want them to survive for Ole Time's sake. But Oxford is the nearest and that inner city has banned the car, so carrying wine is a problem without a rucksack and frame. Oxford city still allows dodgy sulphuric diesel vehicles to polute black smoke smuts all over the shop, Oh yes, cos they are local authority or bloody Taxi lanes everywhere - Duh. One rule for the biggest, and loudest contingent ! .....

HMV'S CEO was on R4 Today this morning - not convincing, Too laid back, he needs to be woken-up on that level of remuneration.

You have persuaded me - I will be in Maj before Christmas, but advising Ladoucette PF when readies are short, is a mean trick

"A while" turned out to be 31 days. Not brill at 11c (cellar temp) but grows with some coldness. Nice, just a teeny bit watery but still fine. Just ordered a few more. Also Southbank, Ned and La Grille Chenin
