Plenty of lush blackcurrant as is the Saint Clair style but a rich phenolic finish lets it down.

~sigh~

Didn't take you long to sample this did it? That's the trouble with garage wine, phenols !

Thiols are much nicer than phenols

Haven't had mine yet, may be one of those that need a couple of months?

No...these phenolic wines never soften.

I shall have to wait for the Oh Block.

Increased skin contact? A portion of oak aging? or are SC throwing in all the pips and stems too?

Good question....mech harvesting, whole bunch pressing, shovel it all in ? Similar effect to 5- 10% once or twice used oak when very very young.

When served warm the phenolicking about doesn't show but the excessive sweetness does. It reminds me of the 09 Wither Hills.

I refuse to believe that this is the SC basic in disguise.

This is a dustbin wine....full of sugar and grape skins.

Garbage !

I'm getting the hang of this "Day 2" regime. This has improved greatly from nigh-undrinkable to quite pleasant. Blackcurrant has turned up, not much fluffung phenollicking but a bit hevvi for MSB. If it had said SA on the label then I'd be very happy with it.

Saint Clair Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2010 (sc) Vibrantly aromatic and full of punchy flavours of passionfruit, sweet pea, summer herbs and tangelo but is the concentration, power and richness and the smooth seductive mouthfeel that gives this wine the x-factor. 13.5% alc. $16.99. 15Sep2010.

Taken from Wine of the Week.

Hope yet for SC 2010

Stop laughing, parsnip boy.

Parsnip Boy saved me a hassle today - Give him space

Sorry not relevant to the thread Title: I'm drinking this: Still one of the best under a tenner, and not sweet when taken straight from my store.

Vavasour Awatere Valley Marlborough NZ Sauvignon Blanc 2009

It hasn't lost its charm, nor its cutting edge for that matter. The whole bottle is trying to work its way into my glass. I'm struggling to control it.

altho my sample selection of whites has been rather limited this year...
