Now known as Brancott Estate. Poor vintage for this wine. Subdued lemon grass and grapefruit flavours. Emphasis more on body than flavour.

Probably not worth the offer price any more even when fresh.

Hmmmm. Maybe that the Reserve might be half tidy then after last years fireball.

Ba,

I think you got a dodgy bottle. I found the 09 MR to be bone dry, rich but not quite full bodied and quite tasteless at least by Marlborough standards.

But no heat or alcohol on the finish. Just a very dull wine. A bit like this year's basic.

I should really quit this and just drink Saint Clair 0h 6 and Lindauer

But you'd all miss me.

Have you tried that Sainsbury Sancerre 09 yet

I have the 1st. major county event of the season on Sunday, and have scheduled the Sancerre as a reward.

Phew, I nearly bought a case of the '10 Brancott.

My first re-branded one. Cellar now passing 11.5 c and this was almost drinkable at that. A few mins in the frij and it is nice. Bit warm for some, but I like it's herby slightly heavy facade. Could almost be from warmer climes.

This has mellowed. It's now lite and sweet but with some passion fruit which saves it from a getting a smack off me for being too commercial.

Toss up now between this and Goldwater for best sub £8 MSB. Goldwater has it for me.

The Dashwood still hasn't arrived.

I cannot believe the number of high quality wine merchants who still sell Wither Hills and pass it off as the wine it once was.

So Goldwater gets the shout ahead of both Southbank and Vav for the 2010 budget award ?

I found this (Brancott) overly tart and beyond that a bit dull but that was a couple of months back. Although tried about a month ago on the Tasting counter at Maj and thought it still dull.

Goldwater would get my shout, Shez, but I've not had Vav10 yet. Dunc and Bob reckon it doesn't scrub up too well against the fantastic 09 though. You had one of yours yet?

The Goldwater needs a day or 2 to open up though. It has gorgeous flavours, but is not overly concentrated. Certainly not a slap you in the face style MSB.

Southbank has that concentration and good flavour but is let down by a teeny bit of lemongrass. Its not far behind, but a totally different style.

I had the Brancott '10 last night, I thought it was pretty good, light but nicely rounded, happily lacking the sourness in the finish that I often find in MSB's. No major depth but it is the basic model, pleasent enough.

By the third night this had developed a very pleasant pineapple cube nose and remained buoyant in the glass, I would buy this again.

Sorry all you CON-wa-sewers, this is fine. Does what it says on the bottle, under £6 and consistent. Also doen't need to be particularly cold, but exactly as my prev. post, may be a touch warm for some. Will get more with the next batch of Vav.

P.S. New W/R offers today / morrow.
