I picked up two of these a couple of years ago whilst on offer in Co-Op, reduced to £4-ish. I didn’t overly enjoy the first bottle, I recall it being incredibly rich and brutish, the oak wasn’t over-powering as only a small percentage visits a barrel but it didn’t seem to sit right with the very forward style of fruit. I knew this had potential though and put the other bottle away.

I opened the second bottle last night, what a difference. The oak had rounded off the spiky edges, the fruit was all banana and sweet citrus. It tasted fresh but there was an evident maturity, a wine at its peak and performing way above its pay grade. Wish I had more.

This sounds very nice, and I would guess Chilean ?

I enjoyed one with less oak, but nevertheless, very satisfying, inspite of the sulphur nose that did dissipate eventually. It was also on the 2007 vintage, and I enjoyed the fruit and the way the wine was made:

Tesco have just started stocking the highly vegetal 09 Springfield Estate Firefinch Robertson SA sauvignon for £8.99. That's as much as Sainsbury charge for the Estate's Special Reserve which is much nicer.

Gk won't agree but can I just remind you all that GK lives in a compost heap and looks like Worzel Gummidge.

Indeed Dunc, Chilean, I have thier '08 Carmenere awaiting my attention too.

Goose, £9 for the Firefinch is too high, could this be one of those 'reduced to £5' jobs, the price at which they genuinely intend to sell it? One to watch.

Mmmmhhh Aunt Sally, I have a thing for stiff, posh birds.
