20% discounts on Chilean offers at Majestic, any mix of any kind as long as at least two bottles or more are Chilean. (A) This wine was £7.99 down to £6.39 Valdivieso Reserva Merlot 2007 This wine is 13.5 alc so that is welcome when drinking a Summer merlot. A summer merlot it is. Glossy fruit, light -n- slightly spicy oak, merlot and more new world merlot. Quite pure and linear in the Chilean guise, not too sweet in the NW style, more voluptuous than normal. Actually quite good for £6.39. Not tannic enough for me, too soft, and not enough grip, however, if you are drinking summer merlot, you could chill this slightly down to 14C, and serve outside in the evening without detrimental effect. As safe bet for many folks, even those who know a few wines. Not confected, very easy but not jammy at all, lasting merlot flavour. Nose a little bit faint, but Hey....you could do a lot worse with £6.39. NB - The Montes Alpha 2007 Merlot was not available on the tasting table, so gave this a go, and took one away with (B) another Montes wine with an usual topical note to the fruit and subdued oak that has been employed in an intelligent and classic way. I did not notice the 14 ABV in the mouth after the merlot, on the nose vaguely petrolly when finding the tropical bits & pieces, but not off-putting at all. skilled and medium weight chardonnay, *pronounced tropical fruit flavours, a little annoying sherbet (kill that sherbet by serving too cool), but nice on the price The Majestic tasting notes are slightly wrong (diplomatic Dunc). The wine is medium, not full, and the pronounced tropical fruit flavours, (not particularly toasty, or toffee apple notes per se') and integrated and pretty light oak treatment for this chardonnay, set it apart from the usual new world, and many chilean / californian styles *Ba would like this. |
