Like a lightweight gewurz. However....sprang wonderfully to life with the aromatic duck. Delicious but a bit bland on it's own. Will give the person who recommended this with Chinese a bottle or two as a thank you. Who says I only drink sb. G ~ now moved onto the Oh Block ~ ps...is Ba on hols or AWOL |

G ~ now moved onto the Oh Block ~ Spoiling yourself again Mr G ? Of the Oh Blocks, and there are three available in the uk ? Is that right G ? Also of the '09s - which G, have you singled out ? And which one would you have me searching to find. Sorry about Monty reserve '09 I was hoping to save a few bob on a half decent one. As I say, the '07 was dimensional and not cloying in my book. note for viewers: "cloying" in good MSB terms, is a tiny fraction of the experience one use to get with a past Oz fashion for oaky & hot chardonnay. Mood & Heath Warning for sauvignon blanc bargain hunters : I enjoy a reasonable budget wine on a bargain, but this chilean SB and one from Big T was a Monkey Bay clone, and for just £3.49 for crying-out-loud, dont buy it for £1.99. Makes your mouth dry from the atringency and a potential sore head in the sun, if you dont take it with a pint of water afterwards. I was offered glass at someone's house recently - I held my tonge in good humour, it was difficult to take - drinking witch hazel springs to mind. |

The only Pioneer Block wine I buy now is the Oh Block 6 2009 from Maj for the two bottle price of £11.99. They have a Pioneer Block cuvee for the same money but it's not a great wine. I had an in store taste. It was blackcurranty enough but very sharp. I really am so in love with the Oh Block that I may ( don't hold your breath ) stick with it, the basic SC and the Estate Reserve at the CoOp assuming Tribs doesn't drink the bleedin' lot. I have been so disappointed with the 09 vintage as a whole. So many sugary wines and not just the new name dross but old favs like Wither Hills and the Wairau wine at M&S too. Not sure what you mean by 3 Oh blocks. 07 08 09 ? |

I have seen Block 19 Bird block in Majestic last year - but on '08 and because expensive, and me having other stock, I did not try. I have seen refernces to Swamp block 2 somewhere else - Oddbins may be ? Or another merchant chain, G - These are the other 2 SC Pioneer BLocks (not Oh' Block - sorry) For a change of week-end luxury from the Craggy Range old renwick, and only here at Maison D - 0h Block 6 on 2009 it is then. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I have 2 JE'07 Left, 2 Te Muna and some 3 old Renwick '09, 1 Clifford bay '08, 2 Oh Block 6 both '08s, 1 VM Cellar Select '07 and 3 CB's on the '09. Plus 9 of the current Laithy (MSB, Hawkes & Nelson monopoles) all on the '09. So I should get a few of these. Q. Do they keep OK half open in the fridge overnight ? - thanks G |

Blimey, what a classy collection of sauvs. I had Block 18 08 from Maj and was bitterly disappointed. Flavourless wine. The better SC's keep well overnight. In fact, well made but super rich wines like JE 08/09 and the Craggy's are more to my taste if chilled overnight. They mellow into quite tidy wines. Montana 09 didn't improve though. Not even £4 a bottle could tempt me back. The CoOp have a new one. Clearwater Bay, bottled in England. Oozing gooseberry and passion fruit apparantly....no mention of sugared tap water. I resisted...i'm getting there. Hooray |

WRONNNNNG - no poker. European bridge champs live on the net, tour de france on the telly. However, I have been 4 days on the wagon (well, nearly) and on the bike. Buying gear and tax etc. Spent a night under the stars as well. I wobbled lonely as a clod O'er Mendips' many vale and hill When all at once (dis-mounted) trod Into a pub to drink my fill. |

And did the glasses gleam and shine And beckon like a twinkling star, And stretch in never-ending line Along the margin of a bar: And did you maybe take a glance, Tossing your head in sprightly dance. The wines were pretty crap, were they? Did Beer out-do the wines in glee: A poet could not but be gay, In such a jocund company: You gazed -- and gazed -- but little thought What wealth the show to you had brought: Could go on, but have guests to feed. |

For this round of 25%, I left the sister Gew and Ries as I have others to try. Got 6 of these at £5.25. Even better than I remember. Made by J-M Lihrmann at the ubiquitous Turckhelm stable, this is moorish. I don't get the mentioned "peach", but honey, spice & a pinch of turkish delight. It is a full 13% which makes me prefer this COLD. |
