At this price point, the '09 Montana basic MSB is very good and possibly the best on the supermarket shelves.
I like the tartness, its true to the character of the grape and the style of wine, or had you forgotten that?

I can't understand where the gold medals have come from as the wine is same old same old. A reward for consistancy perhaps. The 09 is holding up better than previous vintages. Flavoursome enough but tartness lets is down. I used to be satisfied with this. Saint Clair has spoiled me. |

I often wonder when wine writers* ramble on about the wonders of other sub £6 sb's how they would compare it to this as, the Co-Op's Estate Reserve aside, I have never in all my drinking days come across a better cheapie. The only reason I knock it is because i'm a posh nob wot has 'ad better. *Not Mel who has always been a fan of this wine |

The Ned a fruit salad style MSB - little pith, no tartness, a once sugary style now evolving to a perfectly reasonable and thirst quenching demi / demi sec style Goose, The Ned on the otherside of the coin has many fans - particularly those who want it coooool at 7C or so. It has evolved positively since February The Ned 2009 is £5.99 at Waitrose till 13/7/2009. I've served it extra cool, and good folks were happy bunnies on a hot afternoon. |

The Ned is on my banned list. Trendy overrated tat. At £5.99 I will give the 09 a go though. Stoneleigh got a 90 rating offa Bob. Has anyone tried it ? |

Dare I say it but I have purchased a bottle to try tonight/Saturday. I paid £4.99 though so maybe a bargain. I will drink it with an open mind as if it was from Mosel or Burgundy and report back next week with my thoughts. Is this the one thats changing its name soon ?? |

Had a bottle of Montana 09 at the pub yesterday afternoon bland & boring I certainly wouldn't purchase it for home consumption |

Twas probably too warm for the thiols. I dare say a thioless Montana is as bland as a Valle Central Chilean. And there's nothing blander than a Valle Central Chilean I had a glass of Montana last night too. It came compete with thiols. Quite nice. The tarty bits only made me wince twice. G |

I also bought a bottle of this. Went to Morrisons for groceries and they have 10% if you buy 4 bottles, plus £16 Taittinger. I only bought one, but made it up with a Montana and will report back in a couple of weeks. Pity Bacchus is away. I'm meeting some friends in Bristol tomorrow and want something to do. I suggested @Bristol but now it comes to it I'm not sure I fancy it. Anyone? |

Well, I'm only guessing he's done a runner. The waterside is great, but if you can't enjoy a glass, it does take the edge of it. Great waterside stuff goes on, juggling and various folks on stilts, clowns for the kids to enjoy. I quite liked the Montana Reserve 2007 when it had been lying at anchor for a while, and would have bought more, had I known it was going to balance-out so well. I will buy the '09 Reserve also, when it comes up on offer later this year. I avoided Monty '08, couldn't see any point in taking much of that vintage at budget level. |

Asda were selling the Reserve for £4 a couple of weeks ago. I bought one and was unimpressed. Bone dry and super ripe. Like Roy Chubby Brown Weighty and tasteless |

Getting back to the Montana... By bland and boring I meant you could tell it was MSB but it was all too typical really & nothing to shout about. |
