Further to here. I had the opportunity to open a bottle of this last night for a guest who wanted a glass of red. An appalling wine. Green and dilute, with tongue dissolving acidity and a bitter anise undertow, truly dreadful. How this made it to the shelf I will never know. No wonder the French think the Brits will drink any old dross when we have supposedly knowledgeable wine buyers from large retailers signing cheques for rubbish like this. Anyway, the bottles were returned for a full refund this morning and I picked up another six of the delicious Hallett GKR '08. |

That's a NO then Your unfortunate long suffering guests - guinea pigs for bull poopie  At least - somebody else is wiser this morning.
I wonder if Blason can ever recover from this reputation for dire bourgogne rouge at the very bottom end ? I think growers use to send the pigs in to clear the remaining dross at the end of the harvest, now they can flog it off. Mechanical harvesting on third and forth pass rows of vines probably picks up a load stuff more suitable for the pigs to enjoy. |

Yep, they were reduced to £4.25 (less 5% = £4.04). I spotted a single, lonely '07 amongst the '08's, decided to give this Decanter Trophy winner a try too. I left around a dozen more bottles behind. |

Is this just a local offer or nationwide ? I see from Mel's offer page that Poachers Blend has 25% off but no mention of anything for GKR.... |

I suspect this was unique to my local store, it recently underwent a revamp and cleared a load of stock, I was just in the right place at the right time, but, you never know.... I spotted an interesting comment on the Hallett website about the GKR, although it is made in a style that suggests we should drink the wine whilst its young, a recent tasting noted that GKR's from the mid to late 90's were 'drinking beautifully' now. I might stick that '07 away for five years and see what happens. |

Hey GK, I'm sure you know this, but for other viewers- Barossa shiraz on the '98 was reckoned to be excellent at various price levels for structure and staying power generally. The Peter Lehmann version has many '98 fans, and a few I suspect, who are still holding stock in their cellars / wine cupboards. |
