Just a note to say Tesco seem to selling this off at £2.99. Not tasted the 2009 but previous years have been good. Link to Mel's tasting note for the 2009: http://www.quaffersoffers.co.uk/QOforum ... php?t=5887 |

Thanks, I’ve always liked this wine, it’s a bit like the Castello del Diablo Cabernet, always reliable and excellent QPR (if you're happy to sacrifice depth and individuality for pleasant quaffing consistency). At £2.99 I would open one in the car park to taste and then go back in to buy a case. Its not on offer online, must be in store only? |

Barely pays the tax and the transport on the original cost. GK, I am prepared to suffer for 3 quid as well Excellent spot Wizz. |

Tried a bottle last night - similar to prior years but had a bitter taint to it which was slightly off-putting. Could have been a duff bottle. The Reserve 2008 is also reduced to £6, which on balance I'd say is the better buy as it’s so obviously in a different league. Hammer your wallet not your liver perhaps should be the motto here. |

Truth is, I havent tasted it myself (09), but I find it hard to believe that it would be as bad as MM states. Bland, souless perhaps, but dire? Cono Sur make decent wine, Id be surprised if they would allow a successful brand to be soiled by one mega-bad vintage. Maybe a bad batch found its way on to the market. I will look out for a bottle... on offer. |

Hmmm. I opened a bottle of TF Chilean PN 09 at the weekend. This is made by Cono Sur. The nose was wonderful. Wild strawberries and raspberries with a touch of oak. It was almost undrinkable though. A horrible sharp bitter aftertaste. I was thinking it was an issue with my tastebuds as it seemed fine in the mouth until it hit the tongue. Hayfever nasal spray perhaps? |

I wonder if February's earthquake has had an affect on the '09 vintage bottling process? I had the Cono Sur Reserve SB '09 yesterday and although it wasnt bad, it wasnt particularly good either. One to watch? BTW- Ive just eaten a Tunnocks Caramel Log with my cup of tea, I can confirm this batch is fault-free and as tasty as ever. Nom. |
