This wine is said to exclusive to Waitrose in the UK - They quote the wrong vintage on their web site - Duh. However.......

Before Easter a 25% offer was given for 6 bottles or more bought on one transaction - This wine was avaialble for about a week in my local ? Offers at Waitrose end on a Tuesday at close of business.

Therefore the wine cost me £9.74. Very good quality MSB, for sure. Marlborough fratenises with quality Sancerre, and they greet one and another, with some suspicion.

The vines are planted on outcrops of stoney greywacke composed soils, parcels of which are found near the Renwick township. The mineral flavour is quite pronounced, because the SB flavour is not overblown. I like the mineral flavour a lot, and nearly as much as Sancere's limestone and flint - the flavour is more noticeable (and if you cant taste it, you've drunk too many Pepsi Cola's ! recently)
Good purity of fruit, more SB gooseberry and lime and tom leaf power than sancerre, yet less lemon grass, current leaf & green capsicum, and, maybe if I'm biased and loyal, not quite the finesse and elegance of a good quality sancerre.
I need to review these Old Renwicks through a few vintages to be more certain of its quality. One of the best '09 MSB's this year

Sancerre at £9.74 can be a disappointing dry white wine in an indifferent vintage at some nameless stores. So Old Renwick could be said to be more reliable.

To be fair to the Loire - At full price £12.99 there is not that much in it. (exchange rates excepted) If you want a more textured style, and slightly more power in the flavour. Then give this a whirl.

Not too cold - or you miss some of the mineral notes on the palate. As with sancerre, this is not catty - so a relief for some folks

When you can get this for £9.74 it is very Good £ value for this single vineyard style.

That's it; Someone else here who bought ?

Shez, you 'ave indeed sir. Sorry to keep you in suspense

I've been waiting for a quiet spot on the forum to post - The offer is not running, so little point in winding up our readers when its £12.99 on the shelf.

I consumed this with my longest Pinot Noir /Beaune drinking buddy. I'd say he gave the wine slightly better points than me. The minerality rang very positive bells with him.

Shez, I am certain you will be more than happy with this wine. Actually, cos CB '09 has not been tried yet - I may stick my neck out (Goose is not here) and say for us, possibly the best MSB '09 this year. Yeah - I think that's fair.

Martinborough Te Muna Road next, and there are one or two more hiding in Maj to sample

I actually think both ofine are 2008 offerings (I wasn't so lucky to have a choice of vintage)

still, I'm guessing the 2008 will be interesting and looking forward to giving it a go
I have JE 07, 08 & 09 to compare this against as benchmarks so will be interesting

[edit: corrected]

Shez.....Great horizontal stuff if you have enough guests.

Now where did you acquire your Old Renwick '07 ? Was it in Waitrose as a big store item ? Never saw that vintage at my bijou local :o

I remember when this was on offer. My local store was empty and its not been back in since :(

Sounds similar to the Te Muna. Let us know how it compares when you get round to tasting it, Duncan.

My local maj out of Te Muna at present.
