tasting from a slightly unsuitable glass on bottle opened 17hrs ago at room temp:

wonderful nose: sour cherry, smokey bacon and earthy mushroom

The sour cherries are dominant flavour initially and are almost a little too sharp at first but the oak comes in and adds a new dimension and softens things out a moment later.
tannins are fairly soft and length isn't too bad either

This is nice and I'm glad to have 2 bottles of 06 and 3 bottles of 07 left at home
However, I'm sad to say I don't think this is going to be for you.
I don't think the potential is there for it to evolve into the delicate/elegant PN you're after

Shez, ok sir,..... So, no laying down, just mid week for a tenner, what do ya say ?

The last bottle of the 04 Yarra yerring station PN has the nose of a mouldy old carpet - very weird - since the fruit is still quite sweet. Cant drink it when the nose is wrong. Have already agreed with friends at Maj, taking back this w'end

Drystone - style ? Not really for me - noseless I thought
Babich family reserve MPN '07 ok, bottle variance 3rd one was better
I quite like a deeper Mercurey. Chateau de Marsannay at Maj, 4 years on was ok

I should give this a whirl ? Yes / No Cheers Shez. Please dont write up your PN notes with me looking over your shoulder

My friends at Maj have been saying that they are (subject to palate and style demands, and sadly the bank) upping their PN budgets - we are all trying to find something right under £15.

Will have to accept a coalition in the end, a progressive classic NW pact  .

To give it some credit, I haven't come across any confectionary sweetness in this

It should have a few years left in it so now - 2013 I'd guess but only way to find out is to drink it over time.

I would like you to give it a go actually to see what someone who's had a lot more PN exposure (stop giggling at the back!) makes of it

Mrs S opened a bottle of the Drystone last weekend and I actually thought it was a lot better this time round - no cherry tunes.
Might be bottle variance or might just be we didn't give it much of a chance initially.
Have 3 more to go so will keep you posted

Thanks Shez,
I will enjoy picking some up, now you've said that. Cheers for this, I will take two and two more chablis if still there.

Developed nicely now
Nice whiff of barnyard funk on the nose
Sharp red berry with soft tannins and ripe fresh acidity

Excellent, I was eyeing-up a pair of 2007's in my stock that I bagged after your tip-off the previous May, last year. Very glad I looked thru all of the shelves to find them (the 2007) - Cheers Shez.

When should I open them ? Not quite yet for me  .

I would say this is drinking nicely now as I literally popped and poured and drank it over a little time from burgundy glasses.
Should imagine it'll have a year or so in it before it probably starts turning south

Bottle variance is always a possibility with these supermarket wines, especially when they sit in the supermarket warehouse and on the shelves of the store for a while

I've scored it a 90 in CT as it's one of the better value and more ccomplex NW offerings I've tried (especially when we got it for ~£6.66)

That is remarkable QPR - what we'd all like to see more of at Quaffers.

I will enjoy it, No Worries - because I shall pick this wine for light cold meats, that particularly benefit from a fruit forward and sharp red berry pinot noir. Sounds nice already

Delicious, as with unsweetenned cherry and raspberry compot :) That's not teasing NW pinot noir, just the nature of it.

Now on clearance at £7.39 in store - very nice, not an overly complex wine but excellent value at the clearance price. The 2010 had a bitter edge to it and isn't in the same league as the 2007.

I've been picking up any 2007 bin ends where and when I could over the recent 25% offers...

I've recently consumed about 3 or 4 bottles with which I have been very pleased.
Previous bottles gave the impression that this had legs to last a couple more years but my most recent bottle began to fade a few hours after opening.
Likely their is some variance due to storage in different stores.

for ~£5.55 tho its still a great bargain
