Is it this one? Co-op Vina Vedra Albarino 2007 £7.99 Appealing, fruity aroma. Fruity but with peardrops and quite an acetone feel to it. Might be better with food. 13% 24/10/2008 _________________ If so, it's 18 months down the line. |

Yep, that's the beastie. Long, long ago I was in the print trade and acetone fits the bill. |

I have never had an Albarino. Which grape does it most resemble. |

Varies from producer to producer really I'd probably say that most of the ones I've come across are like a fresher version of viognier |

Thanks. Doesn't sound like a wine that i'd like. Asda were selling their 07 Alsace gewurztraminer for £4 a couple of weeks ago. It was lovely. I have 5 bottles left from 8. |

NW Spain - often has a touch of peach on the nose, but is bright in the mouth with often lowish alc at 11.5 and a little fizz. If you look on a map, Rias Baixas where it's made is very close to Vinho Verde and they use the same grape, with a v in the Portuguese. Sat at a tasting on Thurs night and drank water but the consensus was that the Martin Codax Alb wasn't very impressive. Have tried a mouthful of wine every night this week and all have ended in the sink. At the farmers' market this morning there was some Bacchus from near Malmesbury - 2006 vintage - and it was less toxic than other attempts. Going to lovely 50th tonight, so will try again. Hair loss, who cares, but no wine is a real bummer. |
