Anyone tried the '08 yet? The '07 got 'mixed reviews' from Goose.

Now available for £3.16 a bottle...

BTW, Sam Weaver, the winemaker for this was the chief winemaker for Stoneleigh wines and is behind a number of other highly regarded NZ labels (Churton).

A whopping 62% off - Started out at £8.54 online, But how much was it in in Store. Tesco can't sell it ? The bottle shape is wrong for passing casual shoppers.

Good question GK.

Can you buy in store for £3.99 or something - Just to see. A candidate for the Student section if reasonable at this price.

Bacchus - Have you delved ?

Is this a record low for MSB ?

This wine has 5% barrel ferment so very cheap at 3 quid plus pennies.

It's not a good wine though. Even the chance of the odd decent one in amongst the heavy going ones isn't enough to tempt me.

I can't find the Montana basic or reserve 09 anywhere to try.

The basic was a bit tart last vintage although the underlying flavour was nice enough and the reserve, although very restrained and classy, lacked any obvious herbaceousness.

Herbaceousness...now there's a very long word.

Floccinaucinihilipilification is even longer.

Cheers Goose,

Does it make the Student Section, given the shocking stuff that they are palmed off with, at this price.

Goose, you must have taste buds that search every nook and cranny for something positive  .

The Malborough basic, an overall impression, was unlovely for the price. This was last Spring in Majestic - Did it improve with heavy discount ? Somehow. Unripe and Tarty middle, pithy & dead short finish - perhaps I had a bad one - the rest went back, no quibble - general agreement in the branch.

I think one of us needs to sample the '08 before passing judgement. I have seen this in store for £3.99 but even after the 5% case discount this still works out lower cost, but then you need to add on delivery which is .50p a bottle.

Floc - Is that flowery, furry texture ? Flocking ?. Or is it Bull Poopie ?

Try this for MSB green pepper fans (bell pepper in other parts of the world)and the type of bouquet they impart.

On the other hand - don't :? But that is what fancy wine writers mean when they write - methoxypyrazine - to try and fox and impress wine lovers.

The 08 Montana I was prepared to forgive it's tartness early on because the flavour was nice. But now it's tart elderflower cordial and best avoided even at the biggest discount you can find.

What say you to the reserve 08 did you try it.

As for the Ocean's Edge....it depends how irritating the students are. If you don't like them yes put it in.

I had a cup-a-soup or slim-a-soup or similar in asparagus flavour which had methoxypyrazine in it. It's a very common food flavourant and, in the case of some S African winemakers a couple of years ago, wine ingredient. Very pleasant flavour, but not from the grape and so very, very naughty.

No need to give negative feedback about my drinking such dross. When wanting to be thinner a cup of something warm and sauvignon tasting staves off hunger until a meagre lunch.
