This seems more of a summer PN. Bit of a thirst quencher: Juicy fruits and almost gamay-esque bubblegum flavour. Not overly complex and not a lot on the finish. Better value can probably be found buying a Malborough/Central Otago/Yarra Valley offering in the same price band. First tried after finishing the Cartegena heavyweight and seemed overly sweet Gave it a chance and tried the following day - less sweet but still had a bit of that bubble gum flavour and not enough oak for my liking. Think I'll hold on to the rest until next year when, with any luck, we have a nice warm day where this can be served slightly chilled in the sunshine where it should do the business. |

another bottle of this consumed this weekend and was a lot better. Rightly so was more of a Burgundy than beaujolais this time. This had nice summer fruit and mouth watering acidity with slight traces of the oak. Not over sweet and no bubble gum this time. Went well with both Chicken on Saturday and finshed off with steak yesterday. Feeling less disappointed now about this purchase. 2 bottle left for later in the year |

Another bottle down and this is a very good sub tenner PN (when picked up at 9.99) Is pretty burgundian in style rather than NW. IMO much better than L Jadot Bourgogne PN at the same price nice light smooth berry flavour. No tartness that can sometime be found on lower price bracket PN |

L Jadot Bourgogne PN I agree, not special, pretty naff if the truth be told LJ basic B '09 might be better tho ? I missed the PN from Laithwaites from a nearby region. The territory west from the Danube, vineyards around the sweet freshwater lake Balaton. I imagine now, it would have been similar to Eduardo Miroglio's pinot noir. Damn - Am now very sorry I did not split some with one of my PN loving mates. I have had one of these Bulgarian babies many many moons ago, which were stocked by Somerfield at a very silly price. It appears that producers in Hungary and Bulgaria are getting a handle on making these wines nicely (my burgundian interpretation of nicely ) and with some grace. Watch this space. |
