I think this is probably local. C y T Casillero del Diabolo '08 Gewurtztraminer - Tesco £1.74 (sic).
Thought it would bomb-out at checkout, but with 5 others even got another 5% off that. Nothing that M. Gassmann would turn out but good griiiiief, I'll see if there are any left tomorrow. Bit waterey, bit sweety, but it's way better than the Cono ****** Sur, heh, whos counting?

A good find if you like it, I have a Gewurt intolerance, one glass is enough for me.

I think £0.89 is my lowest price paid, it applied to several wines when a local Somerfield closed down a couple of years back.

No cigar B.

Come autumn when there is an abundance of free fruit, I make the odd batch of homebrew. I have around 40 mixed bottles of elderberry and blackberry wine. I rarely drink it, mostly give it away, I just enjoy the process of making the wine, fermentation, bottling, making a label etc. I’ve currently got two gallons of white wine in DJ's that are nearly ready for bottling, this stuff is actually quite good, made from grape & apple juice. This wine works out at around 40p a bottle.

I do have a batch of elderberry port that I made in '05, this is yummy and was entered into an amateur winemaking competition last year, it came 8th out of x29 entered. It was very young and up against some serious competition, 20yo examples from old boys who were home brewing before glass was invented. I was chuffed. I plan to open one every few years to see how it develops.

Two months relaxing in the dark has made a difference (I think). More subtle, but more "guts" as well. Shan't even mention Alsace, but judged in isolation and at £1.74 (why??) less 5% it'll do me guv.

Just can't be bad, and a good saving against expensive water in some outfits.

I make that 165.3p net.

The Cono Sur gewurz is one of worst wines out there. It tastes of some sort of detergent.

Just sayin'

Elsewhere I have nominated that as "The Purple Pretender". Hate to agree with you Gosling, but that stuff is dire. "Detergent" is a great note.

I think it smelt more like Toilet Duck.

I must admit to a Hardy's SB / Char and a Naked Riesling. Do I need to birch myself?

The Hardy's single varietal Chadonnay tastes very similar to the Jadot Bourgogne. Strong lime and warm buttery oak.

I was kinda unimpresed by the Jadot but impressed by the Hardy's. Which is odd as both tasted the same.

As for the Naked riesling. Isn't that Pfalz...~shudders~ I suggest a good rub down with a copy of Kangaroos Weekly and a glass of Tim Adams or Tesco Finest Tingleup 06
