A quick heads up, the Tesco Metro I usually pop into on the way to work had this reduced to £2.99

This is a lovely drop and a case of six made it to the boot of the car with little effort (£2.84 after the 5% case discount).
Mel's note-

This is interesting, from the Tesco site-
Storage Instructions
This wine is ideal for drinking now but can be kept for up to 10 years

10 years? mmmhhhh.....

I cant say that this is nation wide but worth a look methinks.

This is lovely stuff. took it a to a friends BBQ last week.

I happily pay the 5.99 that it usually goes for but at 2.99 I'd have cleared out their shelves.
No doubt I won't have such discount in my locals

You're a lucky lad GK - enjoy

Lucky lad ?... Jammy b*st*rd you mean  he gets them every week !

Shezza, We never get these Store deals in Berkshire - winge winge ...

Do you recon that GK walks about the store with a wretched laptop that has all of Mel's Stars loaded, deliberately, so that he can tease us something wicked when he gets it for 2 and 6 a bottle on some mystery clearance business ! Yeah, well GK, you have to scrape off those bl**dy extra sticky Tesco reduced labels right off the bottles before turning up for dinner ! Eh....keep scaping GK, you've got another dozen bottles to go.

My Tesco knock 25% off a 2001 Chablis that is almost dead - When I checked, the manager says that larger stores, are far less likely to clear space on the shelves, they will never do, a) Do a proper clear out "past its best bin end deal" or b) Negotiate with anyone about ancient stock that is going right over the edge.

They have to wait for HQ instrutions, and they won't bother for half a dozen or so white burgundies that will surely go over, when they remain on warm shelves under arc lights for months on end !

I tried again recently - No deal

No scraping required old chap, no stickers just a 'price cut' label on the shelf, the bottles are in mint condition. Also, they were positioned on the bottom shelf, next to the Hock, so nice and cool and in the shade.

I read somewhere that if a certain wine / products aren’t selling well in a particular store, it’s more cost effective to simply reduce the price than ship it off to a different store. They also have the reliable Otra Vida Malbec for £2.99, I went back last night and cleared the shelves of both wines, I remembered I have a couple events coming up where I will be supplying the wine. Job done.

This Tesco Metro store has history, it started life as a Quick Save, this then got took over by Somerfield which closed last year- they reduced everything, even the racking was sold. I walked away with three cases of wine averaging £2 a bottle (Cono Sur PN for £1.49 !!).

Tesco moved in but business is just as slow as when Somerfield were there. It’s positioned opposite a huge Morrisons. I’m now waiting for Tesco to shut it down and clear the stock.

Now THAT's just showing off !!!

Funny tho, beecause Tesco metro near my work has been putting some bottles on 50% price cut although other than the dragon tree and Tim Adams Semillon (which I was too slow to picck up !), I've not seen anything much apart from the odd Rioja and the usual E&J/Hardys/Oceans edge on offer which tend to be more to overpricing than discontinuing stock.

Off there at lunch time for a look all the same

The Stroud and Ciren Tesco's don't do it but the Cam/Dursley one does but it's only on my way to the tip, which I don't do all that often. About 10 mins from J14 of M5 but not worth going on spec.

GK, can I ask if the branch you're talking about is in a bit of a rubbish area? Not implying that Cam/Dursley is, but it is.

It aint that bad, but I wouldnt want to live there

The location of the store is a bit of a dead spot. It was once a Kwik Save, that was taken over by Somerfield, that closed (got loads of bargains in the clearence) then Tesco opened a Metro. Custom was slow, Id walk in there in the mornings and could be the only person shopping. They have now halved its size and turned it into a Tesco Express with half the stock. Crap wine selection, they no longer sell the Steillage, just the usual overpriced Hardys & Wolf Bland. It wont last.

At £2.84 I would agree that this would be a fantastic bargain.
Varies enormously with temperature. Too warm it's flabby, too cold...nothing. Just right there is a little steel, a little floral with pineapple chunks (soooory Dunc) and very pleasant overall. Somewhat below "medium" but where is the "mouthfull"?
I paid £5.69 and am very happy to have this again but not for that very precious "Riesling moment".

Are you drinking it through a straw?

Good point about temp B, pour it a touch too cold and let it warm in your hand.
