I cannot describe what a perfect Sancerre is. But this is it.

Light medium bodied. Gentle acidity with no hint of tartness. Fruit and minerals in perfect balance.

Gooseberry and chalk ( not flint ) I guess giving the wine a slightly biscuity smell and aftertaste.

Very aromatic yet quite delicate almost simple.

I would love you all to try this just so that you could give me your tasting notes so that we can understand each other as everyone seems to have a different idea of what a perfect Sancerre tastes like.

Goose, my dear Misses is due to go there at some point this week-end, she was in Waitrose this evening. I've made a note to ask her............. Then we can compare notes.

Please advise the optimum drinking temp, say 2-3 hours in the fridge door ?

Thanks for the TN.

Now, I'm about to open a 2002 Marsannay :) , and have supper, see ya.

About 14c

It tastes fresher colder but the flavours are more subdued

Well Goose, my dear Misses went to arguably the largest store in Berkshire,
West Berks, and came back with the 2007 Domaine de la Perriere, there was no 2008 in there. So until I get the right vintage we are messed-up.

I wanted the 2008, I want to see and feel the Petillante in the mouth.

Best laid plans ........

Goose, we drunk the 2007 Dom de la Perriere on Saturday night.

My dear Mrs D had spoit us buy buying thick rough cut smoked salmon, and made thick rolls, with rye bread motzarella and Mediteranean toms for starters. Yum Yum Yum - totally different from the wafer thin stuff.

For this I opened the Perriere Sancerre that you had recommended as 1st Class but the 2007 vintage, also from Sainsburys.

I can tell you that it was quite perfect, fresh and tangy, quite powerful too. MSB goosebury power, some minerality, not too dry, and incredible yet very ripe citrus streak (not tart) that cut through the salmon, just as I had planned. Although powerful and pungent, this Sancerre was light in the mouth and with true to flavour right to the end.

Absolutely marvelous, and praised by everyone -

Cheers Goose, a damn good tip :)

Martin Codax it is. Now then, there's some bad news and some good news. The Albarino was very disappointing after the build up. Touch of banana maybe, something metallic hiding and a bit earthy. Very little taste, and in fact I gave it a slug of last night's SB. Then I saw that [a] the back label recommended 12 c, and [b] my fridge had just switched off from a cooling cycle and was at about 4 c. Have now left it out to thaw a little. More to follow.

I think i'll stick with this from now on and stop experimenting. I will buy them when Sainsbury have 25% off all wines. That said, there is a sub £7 Coteaux Du Giennois at Majestic made by the Caves De Pouilly.

I might order a couple......just to see. I mean, why pay £12 when you can pay £6.99.

They're probably a bit lame.

But you never know.

Ha! What a difference a few degrees makes. The cellar is 15c au moment and I stuck it in the fridge for 45 mins. Pleasant, can't put my finger on it. Am I thinking still champagne ??? Nice enough, but I think if I want this type of eau de booze, I'll stick with the Loire.
