On offer at Waitrose for £7.99. Not quite back to it's very best but still very good. Light medium body but with concentrated flavour of blackcurrant leaf and nettles. Showing signs of age already as 1 in 3 bottles i've opened have been slightly golden and a bit flabby although even then the flavour holds up well. Wairau Valley wine and very typical of the style. Drink now...and serve lightly chilled. This is a class wine. |

We bought for £6.99 - The Misses said "corrrrr" that's good. A bit flabby ! ? ! - Goose, you must be cooking his JE in the computer room while he writes ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ I think it is holding beautifully, although for Goose - The wine has calmed down. Colour is white gold with a lime blush. Flavour; beautifully balanced acidity to fresh fruit, very refreshing even at 14C Misses D says that I must not drink it all, and , exactly How much do you have Duncan ? I left her a glass last night and went into the office for late work. She was tucked up when I locked up late last night. This evening 22 hours later - She said - Yes, "that is the nicest white I have drunk for a very long time" Keep for the week-ends please Duncan. You can't do better than please the Misses  |

Mel and GK may know - My appreciation is slightly different to dear Goose's sabre tooth racey / edgy style. So I'm'fraid............ Sorry Ba, and for Me & My Misses, and for a MSB............ For £6.99, I Just Dont bl**dy Know |

JE confuses me and apols if this has been answered here before. The wine was always £8.99 and always good. Then I had a bottle for £7.99 from Sains which disappointed. There now seems to be the word Stich on the label and the price is all over the place. Anyone? |

Stich is the name of the founder and his name appears on the label of the 2008 vintage to celebrate 20 years since first vintage. The 2008 was very late reaching the shelves and Majestic/Waitrose and Tesco online all simultaneously discounted it to £6.99 which seems odd. The 07 was stunning and I believe the 08 just needs time although Dunc believes that the 08 is different. Which vintage did you have at Sains ? Waipara Hills Soul of the South is better than both. |

There now seems to be the word Stich on the label and the price is all over the place. Anyone? The word stich was first introduced for the 2008 vintage. The Stich family and the Jackson family own the land. The 2007 was normally £8.99 at Sains, then £7.99 at Waitrose as a clear out 2007 stocks price. Then Majestic offered 2008 JE Stich for £6.99. However, I tried to track down the remaining 2007 stocks in Majestic warehouses. None could be found by my manager, until Shezza spotted a dozen at Vinipolis in London Bridge. Goose found 21 bottles in Wales. Shezza being a perfect Gent, had them ship the dozen to my local, therefore, I was able to acquire the JE 2007 for the latest lower price of £83.88 for the dozen. I stumbled across 1994 retail prices some time ago in the Indy. From memory, JE 1993 was £6.99 or £5.99 by the case, Cloudy B was £11.99. most others were £5.99 or less, except the Saint Clare's, Clifford bay and Montana Terroir series. That's the pricing and vintage time line that I know. The New Zealand government propped the industry with export sweeteners during the recession, is my take on it all since last MSB release August 2008 MSB Futures are clearly on the way up for similar quality - is my opinion. |

Dare I say it..... Had another of the JE 07 on Saturday and I think I prefer the 08 now. This one was more minerally and less honeyish than the last 07 I drank. The newly opened oaky creamy nuances and blackcurrant leaf flavours of the 08 are more my thing |

Readers must surely realise by now, that I am easily seduced by the sensuality of honeyed ripeness as long as the wine is balanced by acidity. Good Sauterne transports me (as long as there is not too much clogging marmalade in there) I prefer Puligny to Chassagne, in the unlikely event that I have a shed load of dosh at the ready. I will leave the intellectual stuff to those who wish to thoroughly sift through the analysis I will pick up my fill of '08 before the offer runs out - Shezza can I rely on you to advise me of London stocks at your local edited Puligny versus Chassange |

But of course.... Think the 08 is in plentiful supply at most Majestics where it is currently the cheapest I think at 2 for 7.99 (unless you can find it at one of the supermarshays with 25% off at the mo....) I want to pick up some more myself but I seem to be buying more than I'm drinking at the moment so should really start trying to deplete some of my current supplies Anyway, from what GG says, 09 sounds like it'll be a winner so won't be too miffed if the 08 gets replaced by 09, so no massive rush for me |

Comment from elsewhere on The Ned 09 Not my tasting note I like the Ned but I would hesitate to buy any more 2008 now that the 2009 is on sale I tasted the 2009 in company with the wine maker at this years 3 day Excel bash in May - first impression was that it was one of the most wonderful SB's I've ever tasted - possibly the best - it might have been flattered by its extreme youthfullness - it might have been flattered by the company in which it was tasted, but it certainly knocked spots off the 2008..... I've not had a chance to retaste in order to confirm my initial reaction, so the jury is still out, but the indications from that first tasting were very strong that 2009 is something special I think the 2009 is now on sale in some branches of Waitrose - not my local unfortunately |
