If you like Sancerre and regularly fork out ?12 or ?13 for your favourite bottle you really should try this as it might just save you a few quid.

Classic, green and nutty ( or, if you prefer, minerally and chalky ) Sancerre flavours.

I tried the Henri Pelle Menetou Salon ' Morogues ' 2004 at Waitrose a few days later and although it had the same basic flavour it seemed slightly aggressive and bitter by comparison.

Perhaps it was a duff bottle.

I love Henri Pellé's wines. Still remember the 2001 Morogues Clos du Ratier.... incredibly complex honeyed aromas for a wine of this price, and still beautiful six years after vintage.

Had a couple/3 Loire's at M&S yesterday afternoon.

VdP de Jardin de la France, Les Pierblancs Sauvignon Blanc £6.99 - made at Domaine Henri Bourgeois

Dry sauvignon smell with a touch of cat. Savoury taste. Lasts and lasts. Not the tiniest granule of residual sugar.

Quincy, Domaine Bailly £7.99

Lightly citric nose. Alcohol seems quite warm for the Loire, but is only 12.5%. Quite a lot of phenolic texture, like its had long skin contact.

Reuilly, Ch Gaillard £8.99

Not much smell. Very dry indeed. Again, alcohol seems warm for the Loire. Lasts and lasts with some texture.

I tried the Quincy myself and I thought it was just a poor wine.

More like an overly aggressive/hot Touraine than a Sancerre mimic which is what Quincy is supposed to be.

Ta for the Reuilly note.. i'll avoid it.

The Mathilde De Favray Pouilly Fume is very good..have you tried it ?

No, they had 113 wines which I took nice and slowly and once on the home straight I realised I only had 20 minutes left and so had to miss some out. I realised that you would have definitely tasted the Pouilly Fume, but I have had quite a few recently and am more interested in the oddities, and so ditched it.
