New to Tesco. No idea who makes it.

12% alcohol and very light bodied but same flavours as Jackson Estate at it's best.

Lovely lingering aftertaste

9/10

Made by the Ara Winegrowers Association.

A co - operative I presume.

Lightly chill this.....too cold and you'll lose the flavours.

This is now available for under £4, in store and online.

9/10 with a comparison to JE?

I will have to grab a bottle on the way home now, it would be rude not to.

Yeah, I saw this as well, I recon I got 3 emails with this on pole. ....it is the 2008. :?: is it going to score the 9/10 versus JE 2007.

GK, please post your opinion this evening, and I may take 6 online.

Cheers,

I may not get to try it until the weekend Dunc but will let you know what I think, (I already have a claret, a Fiano and a bottle of sherry open  )

Didn't I mention this one the other week when I was on my Tesco bargain hunt? (look under the "where do you store your wine" thread)
Think Goose advised against even after my mentioning his 9/10 rating on a previous vintage
All the same tho will be interested to see how it goes. As mentioned, for 4 quid I'm sure it can be used as some kind of drain cleaner if it's not all that on taste.

btw, GK, is that the TF Fiano ?

edit: come to think of it, I bet Goose put me off the scent while he's off loading up on all of Tesco's stock of Ocean's Edge...

Yeah, Goose has gone waddling, probably an Easter break. Whilst some of Us growers are too busy to buy.

Shezza, I'm glad you remembered we'll see what GK says. In the meantime Goose's order of The Crossings 2007 has arrived - maybe we have another dead badger to clear-up and bury

Look at this deal Shezza, this merchant is not that far from you.

2006 Touraine from Drouet Freres at £33 per case. I wonder if 2006 stands up now. I did not bother will the Thresher version - warm store stock and all that ! The Drouet family have been in the Loire Atlantique for years, not some Jonny come lately factory & marketing outfit.

Correct. Strange wine this, it exhibits the characters I dislike in white wine, specifically oak aging, but I do quite like it. It's rich and needs food, yet I have been drinking it alone. It tastes 'corked' but in an earthy, pleasant way, its screw-capped. I dont like it but I do.

I think this white is a blend away from near perfection, it needs something to soften it up- anything but Viognier! I wont be buying it again but I probably will. Nurse!

We had the OE SB over the weekend. Typical NZ SB nose, clean peachy flavors, a very slight spritz, quite full, a touch coarse with a hollow finish, no unusual secondary flavors to consider.

Its not a bad wine nor is it anything to rave about IMO. If I were having a BBQ and needed a case of white, this would do the job and Im sure it would be enjoyed by all, the fullness would see it through with the spicier fare. £4~5 is about right for this.

You see, that's the problem.

If all you halfwitted saxon numpties buy a case for the BBQ then Tesco will forever stock rubbish like this and will eventually do away with decent wines as they can make their billions selling 'coarse , full, nothing to rave about ' wines like this.

Why tie up money in slow moving but wonderful wines like Sileni the Straits and Jackson Estate when you can get a much quicker turnover/profit selling tat to the masses.

You're gonna force me to go to Oddbins...

Shame on you.

Any more of this and i'll send Charlotte Church around to your allotment to sing the Spice Girls greatest hits and make you drink alcopops.

I was round a friends yesterday and had both 2007 Nobilo followed by the 2008 OE.
Think the Nobilo was the better of the 2 but neither were anything major. very much a bottle for the masses: nose and taste of a typical MSB but nothing special
Sorry Goose, I totally hear where you're coming from but unfortunately there's no escaping these and the many people who want to only spend a fiver on a bottle of MSB

On the contrary :) , I agree with Goose, it's up to folks like us to set the standards.

Save Your Liver for the good ones.

Don't get me wrong - I'm in your camp here. would rather spend a few quid extra (JE 8.99 at sainsbury's) and have the decent stuff. problem is we are in more of a minority. I can tell my friends to try these better wines but they are lead by the wallets as much as they are their palattes and that goes for the masses out there stocking up on blossom hill etc. I have a friend who's a massive fan of E&J white Grenache - In my eyes horrid stuff (not being snobbish - I just don't like the taste) but he likes it because "it tastes like Ribena" !!!!
Guess it's my job to some how help him see the light but he's more of a quantity over quality type guy when it comes to wine

Also, I see no point in splashing out on a case of *Jackson Estate* simply to hand around at a BBQ when the majority of the guests believe Kumala Rose is the height of decadence and fail to taste the difference.

Think about it, if it were not for the £4 wine brigade our average spend would be higher than it is now due to production/delivery costs being much higher overall. For example, do you think Mr Jackson Estate hires a boat especially for his hundred or so cases to be delivered to the UK? No Sir, they sit next to the five million cases of OE destined for Tesco.
